Terms and Conditions

Acceptance of these terms and conditions is a condition of booking and is your acknowledgement that you have read, understood and agreed to be bound by them.

Renter Qualifications and Requirements
The Daves Car Rental company may impose significant qualifications and requirements on people seeking to rent vehicles. Those include possession of a valid drivers licence, the satisfaction of minimum age requirements, the making of arrangements with respect to security bond and the making of arrangements with respect to payment of rental charges that Daves Car Rental deems satisfactory. Other, significant qualifications and requirements may also apply. You must satisfy all rental qualifications and requirements at the time of pick up; it is not sufficient for you to meet them at the time of reservation.

If you believe that any of the information that we hold about you and your reservation is incomplete, please let us know and we will update your details. With your help we will take reasonable steps to ensure that we hold current information. Please refer to the "Reservation Amendments" section.


Drivers Licence
Full current Australian and overseas or international licences are accepted. If overseas licence is not in English, then an international drivers licence is also required. Licence must be held for at least twenty four (24) months (excluding any time under a learners permit or a provisional licence). Overseas travellers who will be driving in Australia for a period that is longer than three (3) months, will be required to obtain an international drivers permit.

At the time of pick up, all drivers of the vehicle will need to present and provide a valid drivers licence and credit card in their own name. Drivers with an overseas licence must provide their country licence, international licence and passport.

Drivers Age
Drivers are to be a minimum age of 21 years old and a maximum age of 70 years old. Drivers aged 21 to 24 or over the age of 70 are restricted to the types of vehicles they can drive. All drivers under the age of 25 or over the age of 70 are subject to a daily age surcharge.

Payment Methods
Payment must be made in full in Australian dollars. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Japanese Credit Bureau, Debit Card and cash. American Express and Japanese Credit Bureau payments incur +5% merchant surcharge. Visa, MasterCard, Debit Card and cash payments incur no additional surcharge.

Note: Debit Card and cash payments are not available at the following locations:
• Brisbane Airport
• Gold Coast (Coolangatta) Airport

At the time of rental the credit card holder must be present, be included and sign the rental contract. If the renter is not the same as the driver, additional driver/renter charges apply.

Security Bond
Security bond is pre authorised on the renters credit card equal to the vehicles chosen excess. In instances where the renter has not purchased one of our renter protection services, a pre authorisation of at least $1,100 will be processed on the renters card. Daves Car Rental reserves the right to pre authorise an amount up to the chosen excess. Upon return and closure of the rental contract, the pre authorisation is cancelled.

At the time of pick up the credit card holder must be present, be included and sign the rental contract. If the card holder is not the same as the driver, additional driver/renter charges apply.

Note: Due to the limitations within terms of use for American Express and Japanese Credit Bureau it is compulsory for all renter protection services to be accepted by customers who are using these cards for security.

Note: Debit Card and cash bonds are not accepted. A credit card is required for all security requirements. Visa Debit, MasterCard Debit, etc, is not a credit card.


Standard Damage/Loss Cover and Optional Renter Protection Services
When you rent a vehicle from Daves Car Rental, Third Party Liability cover for bodily injury is provided in accordance with the legal requirements of Australia.

In the event of an accident, loss or damage to the vehicle or third party property a Accident Damage Excess (ADE) will be charged. This fee is charged regardless of who is at fault or the amount of damage. If the loss or damage is ultimately less than the ADE, part of the ADE will be refunded.

Any breach of our Terms and Conditions will result in the renter being financially responsible for all losses to both the Daves Car Rental vehicle and any third party damages, above and beyond the ADE stated on your contract.

Standard Damage/Loss Cover
If you have not purchased one of our renter protection services, a standard ADE applies to your rental. This provides you with cover in the event of damage or loss caused as a result of a Multi Vehicle Accident where another vehicle can be fully identified and all details provided.

Accident Excess Reduction (AER)
Daves Car Rental Accident Excess Reduction (AER) provides you with cover in the event of damage or loss caused as a result of a Multi Vehicle Accident where another vehicle can be fully identified and all details provided.

Premium Protection Package (PPP)
Daves Car Rental Premium Protection Package (PPP) provides you with comprehensive cover in the event of damage or loss caused as a result of a Multi Vehicle Accident (covered by AER) and also Single Vehicle Accident (an accident not involving a collision between the rental vehicle and another vehicle, other than a parked vehicle) and Hail and Storm damage.

Rate Quotes
Rates include Standard Damage/Loss Cover, free local pick up, free kilometres, registration recovery fees, administration fees, goods and services tax, 24 hour roadside assistance and free use of street directories.

Rates are based on season, availability and demand, and they change very frequently. Reservations made online are always heavily discounted.

Rental Day
A rental day consists of a twenty four (24) hour period.

Free Kilometres
Unless a reservation states otherwise, unlimited kilometres are included. Additional kilometres are charged at twenty five (25) cents per kilometre should your reservation include a limited kilometre rate.

Petrol
Petrol is not included with rates. It is the responsibility of the renter to return the vehicle with correct amount of fuel, as provided at time of pick up. Additional charges and a service component fee applies if the vehicle is not returned with correct amount of fuel.

Daves Car Rental's fleet of vehicles is varied, whilst most passenger vehicles run on unleaded fuel there are other vehicles such as passenger vans that use diesel fuel. It the responsibility of the renter to put the correct fuel in the rental vehicle, if you are unsure of what type of fuel your vehicle takes please ask a Daves Car Rental staff member.


Online Quote and Reservation Service
You may request a quotation and check availability without making a reservation. Complete only the first three steps of the Quote and Reservation process. If you wish to make a reservation at this time and with these details, add in your personal details and continue by pressing the "Request Booking" button. Once processed by reservations, you will receive a confirmation email for your hire car.

The online reservation service is located on a secure server that guarantees the safety of the transaction. The system uses SSL encrypting technology. SSL works by encrypting all communications between the computer and the server so the information cannot be intercepted.

Vehicle Fleet
Daves Car Rental has a wide selection of vehicles to choose from to suit your requirements. Our fleet range includes compact, medium, intermediate, full size, wagon classes, plus passenger vans for those travelling in a group.

Vehicle models may differ and specifications may vary by location. Vehicle make and model are based on availability. Vehicles can be reserved by car group only and not by particular car model, year or colour. Fleet is subject to change without notice.

At the time of booking advise of your preference. If available at the time of pick up, we will be more than happy to accommodate your preference.

Area of Use
The area of use for vehicles are confined to a 250 km radius from our Surfers Paradise Office (mainland only).
Area of use between Byron Bay - Gold Coast - Brisbane - Sunshine Coast.

By prior arrangement the area of use may be extended. This incurs an additional daily surcharge for the duration of your rental. The purchase of AER or PPP is compulsory.

Vehicles are permitted for use on sealed gazetted roads only. Gazetted road means a road regularly maintained by a local, state or government body, authority or council. Vehicles are not permitted for travel to coastal islands and cannot be taken on ferries, transporters and trains.

Equipment and Optional Extras

Additional Drivers
Nobody can drive a Daves Car Rental vehicle whose name does not appear on the rental contract. Subject to renter qualification and requirements, additional drivers can be included. Additional driver charges apply.

Child Seats
In accordance with the legal requirements of Australia, children aged under seven (7) must wear an approved, properly fastened and adjusted child seat.


Upon request and by prior arrangement, we can provide Baby Seats and Booster Seats with your car rental. Convertible Baby Seats: Rear facing mode suitable for newborn to 8 kg, front facing mode suitable for 8 kg to 18 kg. Booster Seats suitable for 14 kg to 26 kg. For your child's safety, the child seat must be installed by the renter. All vehicles come with the required fittings.

Satellite Navigation Units
Upon request and by prior arrangement, we can provide Satellite Navigation Units with your car rental. Our portable navigation units feature a simple touch screen interface, with automatic route calculation and turn-by-turn voice and visual guidance.

Street Directories
We provide complimentary Street Directories for use with your rental.

By prior arrangement, we offer a meet and greet service at Brisbane Airport and Gold Coast (Coolangatta) Airport.

Brisbane Domestic Airport
Upon your arrival and collection of luggage, please ensure your mobile phone is switched on. You will be greeted by one of our friendly staff outside the arrival terminal doors. They will assist you with your luggage and take you to your vehicle. Once at the vehicle they will provide you with copies of the rental contract and receipts. They will also advise you of the return procedures for the location you are returning to at the completion of your contract.

Brisbane International Airport
You will be greeted as you enter the arrivals terminal by one of our friendly staff. They will be holding a welcome board with your name on it. They will assist you with your luggage and take you to your vehicle. Once at the vehicle they will provide you with copies of the rental contract and receipts. They will also advise you of the return procedures for the location you are returning to at the completion of your contract.

Gold Coast Domestic Airport
Upon your arrival and collection of luggage, please ensure your mobile phone is switched on. You will be greeted by one of our friendly staff outside the arrival terminal doors. They will assist you with your luggage and take you to your vehicle. Once at the vehicle they will provide you with copies of the rental contract and receipts. They will also advise you of the return procedures for the location you are returning to at the completion of your contract.

Gold Coast International Airport
You will be greeted as you enter the arrivals terminal by one of our friendly staff. They will be holding a welcome board with your name on it. They will assist you with your luggage and take you to your vehicle. Once at the vehicle they will provide you with copies of the rental contract and receipts. They will also advise you of the return procedures for the location you are returning to at the completion of your contract.


Note: Delays may occur during peak times.

Note: Please check the vehicle conditions written on the rental vehicles statement are correct and if apparent defect is noticed and not listed when examining the vehicle; please notify the Daves Car Rental staff member. If you require additional information on the vehicle please ask our staff to demonstrate the workings of the vehicle and to help you familiarise yourself to its controls.

After Hours Pick up and Drop off
By prior arrangement, after hours pick up and drop off can be organised. This incurs an After Hours Fee and it is compulsory for all renter protection services to be accepted by customers. Vehicles returned after hours will remain the renters responsibility until it has been checked by a Daves Car Rental representative the next business day.

Late Returns
Returning the vehicle after or even before the designated drop off time might affect the rate quoted. Returning the vehicle by the agreed time also helps ensure that all other customers will have their reserved vehicle available upon their arrival. If the vehicle is returned up to three (3) hours late, a third of the daily rental rate will be charged for each hour overdue. If it is returned greater than three (3) hours late a full days rental is applied. Optional extras (for example: AER or Satellite Navigation, etc) will be charged at the full daily rate.

Toll Roads
All Queensland tolls roads are operated by Queensland Motorways and will be electronic from July 2009. There is no more stopping to pay for your tolls with cash. To learn more about how to prepay tolls visit Queensland Motorways or Go via.

Toll road use is the responsibility of the renter. Any toll evasion imposed onto the company through your use of the vehicle will be charged to you, including an administration fee for each unpaid toll use.

Infringements
Infringements and traffic violations is the responsibility of the renter. An administration fee applies for each infringement that is imposed onto the company through your use of the vehicle.

Cleaning Charges
Return of vehicle in an excessively dirty condition will incur cleaning charges.

Non-Smoking
All Daves Car Rental vehicles are non-smoking.


Accidents and Roadside Assistance

Accidents
In the event of an accident where medical assistance is required dial 000 for emergency help.

First report the accident to the Police immediately. Ensure all details of third parties, witnesses and police that attend at the scene are recorded. Do not admit liability. You must contact us immediately and complete an accident report form, giving a full report of the circumstances. Renter may be held responsible for costs incurred for damage to the rented vehicle if renter fails to complete an accident report form.


Defects
It is the renters responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was at the time of pick up. If you found a new apparent defect, not listed on the vehicle statement remitted at time of pick up, you have to contact and inform a Daves Car Rental representative for joint examination.

Roadside Assistance

Daves Car Rental (through sub-contractors) provides a twenty four (24) hour breakdown roadside assistance service for the vehicle. Roadside assistance does not cover non-mechanical defects such as, lost keys, keys locked in vehicle, flat battery due to light being left on, etc.

Reservation Amendments
If you believe that any of the information that we hold about you and your reservation is incomplete, please let us know and we will update your details. With your help we will take reasonable steps to ensure that we hold current information.

Rates and all reservations are based on season, availability and demand, and they change very frequently. Reservations made online are always heavily discounted. Confirmed reservations can be altered and may be subject to altered pricings when things such as dates, length of rental or vehicles category are amended. All rates, including specials and discounts provided in confirmed reservations are valid only at the time of issue and therefore changes to a reservation may be subject to a requoting of rental costs and incidental charges.


Cancellation Policy
We reserve the right to charge the following cancellation fees to all confirmed reservations.
More than seven (7) days notice - No Cancellation fee
Within seven (7) days of hire - $100 Cancellation fee
Within twenty four (24) hours / No Show - Up to full cost of "total estimate of charges"

Changes to Terms and Conditions
We may vary Terms and Conditions at any time without notice.
